Plan your education visit
Birdworld is the ideal place for learning outside the classroom!
Along with discovery workshops there is a whole host of wonderful experiences for you and your learners to experience at Birdworld. Education visits are welcomed all year round, please note in peak season discovery workshops can be booked very quickly, and we would recommend you reserve your session as soon as possible.
How can we make our visit a success?
Plan! Birdworld is a compact site, but we welcome a visit from your lead teachers to enable you to write your risk assessments, plan your walking routes, toilet stops, and how long it will take to walk to your discovery workshop.
If you have booked a discovery workshop it is recommended you arrive a few minutes prior to your start time to ensure your session can begin swiftly, and to enable your students to achieve the most out of their session. In the unfortunate event you arrive more than 10 minutes late, we may need to cancel your session, and you will still be charged. ( If you know you will be late arriving and let us know in time for us to make changes to our schedule then we will do our best to do so and fulfil your session.)
We would also recommend you ensure you and your students are prepared for the weather on your visit. We are an outdoor attraction with a few covered viewing areas, so you will be outdoors for most of your visit, so bring your wellies and waterproofs for some fun class puddle splashing and plenty of water on those hot sunny days!
Can we pet animals during our visit?
We have lots of animal walkthroughs in the park where you will be able to view and experience animals up close, including penguin beach and seashore walk. Jenny Wren farm also is home to free roaming chickens and turkeys, which may come and say hello to you, but in general our animals are at their happiest and most comfortable when given a bit of space. The exception to this is if you book a discovery workshop, where you may have the opportunity to meet our ambassador animals.
What else can we do during our visit?
Animal talks and presentations run through the peak season and are at timed points through the day. You are welcome to attend these public talks as part of your visit.
Along with an amazing bird collection, Birdworld is also has the Jenny Wren Farm, which is home to reindeer, chickens, sheep and many more animals to discover!
During your visit you are welcome to use the play areas found throughout the site, which is ideal when your class is stopping for a break or needing a run around after lunch.
What facilities are available to visiting groups?
We have three public access toilet blocks each with a disabled toilet facility, found across the site located by the main entrance, wildlife garden and near the entrance of Jenny Wren Farm.
Birdworld is renowned for its landscaped gardens, please use these lawned areas as picnic spaces for your class to have their lunch.
We unfortunately can not guarantee the facilities to hold onto lunches, especially in peak season, so we suggest students bring a small rucksack. However, if you would like us to provide lunches, please advise us when booking.
